For many real estate agents, nothing is as valuable (or as daunting) as throwing a terrific open house.

While online listings, 360-degree images, and video tours are certainly making waves in the industry, nothing beats a good old-fashioned face-to-face meeting with various people interested in possibly purchasing a home.

• Biggest benefit of using the books: “With the book, there is something very concrete that they can hold in their hand. My picture is looking at them every day. Even if they lay the book down on a table or something, my picture is looking at them. I have never known anyone to throw my books away. I’ve noticed that when I list a house, the sellers have put my book in a drawer. It hasn't been thrown away. They've kept it.

Open houses don't hold quite as much water as they used to, but it's still a big part of marketing a listing.

Open houses are becoming less and less important since there are so many ways to walk through or tour the house online now. That doesn't mean that open houses don't serve any purposes, in fact they serve a few, even though 88 percent of buyers search and view houses online.
